Dear Shed Buyer,
If you haven’t heard of ShedSafeTM , here are facts you should know before purchasing a shed. ShedSafeTM is an industry benchmark accreditation scheme for steel shed design initiated by the Australian Steel Institute (ASI) for Australian shed suppliers.
Fair Dinkum Homes & Sheds is one of only a small number of companies in Australia that has gained accreditation, and the only company that operates in doth markets to have done so.
While ShedSafeTM is not a standard in New Zealand as yet, you can rest assured that Fair Dinkum Homes and Sheds business like ourselves in New Zealand operates to the same high standard of its Australian sister company.
Visit www.shedsafe.com.au to see which companies are accredited and which aren’t – it might surprise you to see which companies are not listed there!
ShedSafeTM accreditation came about in Australia after the ASI learned that most sheds that had structural failure during Cyclone Larry were not built to standards set by the Building Code – the Australian and New Zealand standard AS/NZ1170. Evidence of under-engineered sheds has been discovered throughout Australia – putting people and property at risk.
Using a ShedSafeTM accredited company provides buyers with increased confidence that the engineering guidelines set by the Building Code are adhered to.
ShedSafeTM accreditation cannot be purchased – it has to be earned.
To earn accreditation in Australia, Fair Dinkum Homes & Sheds underwent a rigorous auditing and certification process by the ASI’s panel on independent engineers and specialists. Being ShedSafeTM accredited is a commitment that buildings are adhere to the Building Code.
Why should you trust a Fair Dinkum Designed shed?
1) ShedSafeTM accreditation means the hard work of checking engineering compliance has been done by an independent body.
2) All Fair Dinkum Homes & Sheds designs have site-specific plans and an engineering Producer Statement PS1.
3) We can supply a full set of design calculations specific to your shed. These calculations are usually around 25 pages long (provided electronically to save paper) and set the chchecks that have been completed in order to design your shed to meet the Building Code.
Be wary of any brand that cannot provide the above documents. If not ask why not.
It’s important not to accept a PS! Signed by an engineer without the structural design computation and individual site plan – any repeatable shed supplier should be able to provide both if they have completed the engineering work for your building and specific site. Some companies try to short cut the process and will provide generic designs and engineering that may not be specifically for your site.
Getting a compliant shed is important; it provides peace of mind that your family and valuable possession will be safe for years to come. Be sure to check the engineered capabilities of your shed provider to order your next shed.
